Sara’s gifts of composing were displayed as early as six years old in her piano lessons. She always played by ear, and at 16 she began to add lyrics and to some of her compositions which were subsequently performed by talented friends and family who sang while she accompanied at the piano with only a sheet of typed lyrics. She has always been poetically inclined and would often make up little songs to entertain her friends and her seven younger siblings. Any spare time she had was spent on the piano either at home, in the band room at school, or quietly in the chapel (while she was supposed to be practicing the organ to play for Sunday’s sacrament meeting) playing something no one, including herself, had ever heard before. Once she was married, she began to score her songs into sheet music form.
